Why Everyone Is Talking About National Ablepreneurs Day (And You Should Too)

Hi there! I am so excited to talk to you today about something very close to my heart. If you’ve been following along with my journey at Wellness Without Barriers, you know that I’m passionate about making health and success accessible for everyone, especially those of us navigating chronic illness, disability, or neurodivergence.

That is why I am absolutely thrilled to share that September 16th is National Ablepreneurs Day.

This isn't just another date on the calendar. It is a dedicated UK-wide celebration of disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent entrepreneurs, people who are redefining what it means to build a business. This year, the theme is "Entrepreneurship Has No Limits," and as a Trusted Partner of the Ablepreneurs community, I couldn’t be prouder to stand with this movement.

What is National Ablepreneurs Day?

National Ablepreneurs Day was created to shine a light on a community that often works behind the scenes, navigating unique challenges while building incredible things. An "Ablepreneur" is an entrepreneur who identifies as disabled, neurodivergent, or lives with a long-term health condition.

For a long time, the business world was built on "hustle culture", the idea that you have to work 80 hours a week, survive on caffeine, and push through every physical limit to be successful. But we know that for many of us, that simply isn't a realistic or healthy way to live.

The theme "Entrepreneurship Has No Limits" doesn't mean we should ignore our physical needs. In fact, it means the opposite. It means that our limitations don’t define our potential. It means that with the right tools, a supportive community, and accessible wellness strategies, we can create careers and businesses that thrive with us, not in spite of us.

Why This Partnership Matters to Me

As a Trusted Partner of Ablepreneurs, I see every day how much magic happens when people are given the space to work in a way that suits their body and mind. My mission at Wellness Without Barriers has always been to provide gentle, realistic support for those who find traditional wellness advice overwhelming or inaccessible.

Running a business while managing a chronic illness or fluctuating energy levels requires a special kind of resilience. It requires a commitment to self-care that goes beyond just "taking a break." It’s about building a foundation of wellness that supports your ambition without leading to burnout.

I’ve shared before about learning to walk, talk, and advocate after my journey with FND, and that lived experience is what drives everything I do. When I partner with organizations like Ablepreneurs, it’s because I believe that when we support disabled-owned businesses, we aren't just helping individuals, we’re making the whole economy more inclusive and innovative.

Balancing Business and Wellbeing

If you are an Ablepreneur yourself, or if you’re thinking about starting your own venture, you might be wondering how to balance the demands of work with your health. The truth is, you don’t have to choose between your health and your career.

Here are a few ways we focus on sustainable growth here at Wellness Without Barriers:

1. Embracing the Pacing Framework

In the business world, "pacing" isn't a word you hear often, but it’s our superpower. Using a proven 4 Ps Pacing Framework helps you manage your energy budget so you don't end up in a "boom-bust" cycle. It’s about doing what you can, when you can, and being okay with the rest.

2. Strategic Rest

Rest isn’t a reward for hard work; it’s a vital part of the process. I often talk about why strategic rest will change the way you build habits. When you’re an entrepreneur, taking a rest day is a business decision that protects your most valuable asset: you.

3. Calming the Nervous System

When deadlines loom or energy is low, our nervous systems can take a hit. Learning how to calm your nervous system and manage fatigue is a game-changer for staying focused and resilient.
