We Did It! Wellness Without Barriers Wins Newcomer Consultancy of the Year & Rising Star Award for Healthcare

I’m sitting here at my desk, a cup of tea in hand, and I still can't quite believe I’m typing these words.

If you’d told me a few years ago: back when I was struggling to navigate the simplest daily tasks: that I would be standing (or sitting, depending on the day!) as the winner of two national business awards, I probably would have given you a very tired, very skeptical smile.

But here we are.

I am beyond thrilled, humbled, and a little bit emotional to share that Wellness Without Barriers has won Newcomer Consultancy of the Year and I have been honored with the Rising Star Award for Healthcare at the UK Business Awards.

A Win for Accessible Wellness

These awards aren’t just trophies for a shelf (though they are very shiny and lovely!). To me, they represent something much bigger. They are a recognition that the world is finally starting to value gentle, realistic, and accessible wellness.

For too long, the "wellness" industry has been dominated by high-intensity standards that simply don’t work for every body and mind. Winning these categories feels like a giant "yes" to the idea that health isn't a one-size-fits-all race. It’s a confirmation that our community: people living with chronic illness, disabilities, and fluctuating energy: deserves a seat at the table and professional support that actually understands our reality.

Born from Lived Experience

Whenever I talk about Wellness Without Barriers, I always come back to why I started this journey. My path into wellness coaching wasn't a traditional one. It didn't start in a gym or a nutrition school; it started in a hospital bed and on my sofa during the darkest days of my journey with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

When I was first diagnosed, I felt like I had been dropped into a world that wasn't built for me. Traditional health advice felt like a slap in the face. I was told to "push through," but my body was screaming for me to stop. I had to relearn how to walk, how to talk, and eventually, how to live in a way that respected my new limitations.

I realized then that there was a massive gap. There were plenty of "experts" telling people how to be fit, but almost no one was showing us how to be well when our energy is a finite, unpredictable resource.

Wellness Without Barriers was born out of that necessity. I wanted to create the support system I wish I’d had: a place where "success" is measured by how well you listen to your body, not how many miles you ran.

Why "Newcomer Consultancy" and "Rising Star"?

Being named Newcomer Consultancy of the Year is such a testament to the growth of this small but mighty business. We launched with a simple mission: to provide personalized wellness coaching that prioritizes your current capacity. Seeing that recognized on a national level tells me that the "consultancy" world is ready for more heart, more empathy, and more accessibility.

The Rising Star Award for Healthcare feels particularly personal. Transitioning from being a patient to a practitioner has been one of the most challenging and rewarding things I’ve ever done. I’ve spent years learning to advocate for myself, and now, getting to use that knowledge to help others navigate the healthcare system and their own wellness journeys is an absolute privilege.

To the Community: This is Your Win, Too

I didn't get here alone. This business belongs to every single one of you who has ever sent a kind message, shared a post, or trusted me to be a part of your wellness journey.

  • To my clients: You are my biggest inspiration. Watching you implement gentle micro-habit hacks and reclaim your autonomy in a world that often tries to take it away is the reason I do what I do.
  • To the #Ablepreneurs: You are proof that we can build businesses and careers that work with our health, not against it. Thank you for being a community of support, resilience, and brilliance.
  • To my team: Thank you for keeping the wheels turning, even on the days when my energy is low. You make this possible.

Looking Ahead: Accessible Wellness for All

While I’m taking a moment to celebrate (and probably a long, restorative nap!), I’m also looking toward the future. These awards give us a platform to reach even more people who feel left behind by the traditional wellness industry.

We are continuing to develop resources like our Boundaries Blueprint and our guide to strategic rest. Our goal remains the same: to make wellness sustainable, inclusive, and compassionate for every body and mind.

Whether you’ve been with me since the beginning or you’re just finding us now because of this news: thank you. Thank you for believing that wellness can be soft, that rest is productive, and that our lived experiences are our greatest strengths.

Let’s keep breaking barriers together.

With so much gratitude,

Gemma x
